Never mind, I guess it's better to play ball games where they don't keep score, raise your kid with a video game babysitter, let them think that all meat and fish comes from under plastic wrap at the grocery store and reverence for God, respect for the flag and service to their fellow man mean nothing.

Our scouts camp, build campfires, paddle rivers, backpack the Rocky Mountains, go rock climbing, drill on first aid skills, lashing skills and learn leadership and team work. It's the last group in America that teaches boys how to become responsible and capable young men.
If you are basing your judgment off of water gun fun then you are clueless as to what the Boy Scouts of America is about and how much it contributes to the past, current and future leadership of this nation.
All I can say is that Cub Scouts really isn't comparable to Boy Scouts, and that a scout troop can only grow/succeed with committed adult leaders. You get out what you put in.

I am doing what I can to make a change in a few young men's life. One of our requirements is to learn how to change a tire, bulb, and air filter in a car. If it was not for scouts three of the boys in our den would never have been fishing our camping. We learn knife and hatchet safety and yes if I see a 9 or 10 year old not being safe I will pull their blade privilege. My son has hunted and fished with me since he could walk has been a few steps ahead but he is learning to share his knowledge and help. Please don't condem the whole organization because of a few morons or lazy leaders. There are always good and bad examples of everything but for every one of the bad there are leaders out there doing all we can to do the right thing.
I was back home a few weeks ago hiking a pretty remote trail with my girlfriend and we happened to cross paths with a troop. I first noticed that it was a group of about 15 people approaching us and that the first guy in line had a Texas shirt on. I cringed thinking it was a probably a bunch of rowdy, loud tourists. It turned out to be a Boy Scout troop from Texas, and each and every one of them stepped off of the trail so my girlfriend and I could pass. I thought that was a great courtesy and I was proud to run into those young men. I'm not sure you'd see a courtesy like that out of any group of 15 year olds besides that one.
