Prayers sent. The people at your primary job are just making business decisions that they believe will better their position. I would hope that they included the impact to employees that this decision made. Anytime you mess with pay or time off, you'd better have your ducks in a row. The positives surely must have outweighed the negatives for your employer, as this will surely start a storm that they will have to weather.
The one thing I would ask is are you salary? If not, or even so, how do they plan on compensation for restricting you on your weekend travels?
You have to make the same type of decision for your "business". Stay with your "Primary" employer and make adjustments, find another job, or go "All In" and expand your business. I would make this a family decision and put it to the Lord. Present your troubles to him and everything will work out.Last edited by ATControlFreak; 05-16-2015, 08:08 AM.

First off Thank You! Believe me this has stirred up a lot of dust! Ever since I have been here they have tried pushing for us to go to 8 hour shifts. We knew it was coming at some point but wasn't expecting all of the trash rules that go with it. The wknd "on call" rule really gets me. Being limited to what I do, where I go and so on isn't going to fly with me or anyone else. IMO thats where the supervisors come in to play. One supervisor has 30+ years experience and doesn't have a clue on many situations so I'm guessing thats the reason why it's left for us. I personally have a higher license than anybody here but the boss man himself and I have 6 years experience. I am the only one that has all the requirements to run this place if boss leaves! My immediate supervisor can't even pass the exam after 6 tries!I do believe there should be some sort of compensation for having to stick around certain month's. But being paid hourly I am sure it's just OT pay if called in and that's it. I received next month's schedule yesterday and it's horrible. I worked hard to get set on day crew and now since I am younger than 50% of the guys here I am being put on days and nights combined! I was specifically told "Young guys can handle the timely body change better than us old guys"! Really!?!?!?!?! Seniority has always been the rule around here but not anymore. Next month I have 6am-2pm shifts along with 10pm-6am shifts for 9 days straight! Really hurts me, my family, and my business!
My business is strong at times! It's been a passion of mine since I was 8. It has provided well for my family over the past 5 years! 2 years ago I came so close to giving it up. Received a PM from a Member here and an open door lead to one after another. Now I am at the point I don't want to let it go. TBH has been a Blessing! I have met 100s of great people sharing what I enjoy! LSBA is also a reason for where I am today! I am at peace building antler art. Stress free, dont have to worry about a boss breathing down my back, work when I want to work, so on and so on. When I put time in the business it shows.
Life isn't about money or what materialistic items I have! I've had a lot, I have made a lot, but looking back I missed A LOT of what is important in life and that's God, my Wife and my Kids! I know money is needed to pay bills etc but I believe no matter what HE will provide us with what we need! My kids are at the stage where little league is coming and I would miss a lot of games and memories. I also miss a lot of Church. Believe it or not church members believe my wife is a single mother! It's not my business getting in the way either!
I know what I have to do but it's scary to think about! Like I said before I have had many answered prayers leading me to the business decision. The timing I had planned seems to not have set well with God's plans which may be the reason for the crazy scheduling at work! Makes my decision somewhat easier. Lol... We will keep praying the transition goes smoothly. No matter what God will be put first in all we do!

Don't quote me, but I don't think, without some form of compensation, they can require you to devote your "off duty" time to them. Those type of roles are generally reserved for salary employees. You might want to verify their intentions and then research it in the Texas labor laws. Good luck.Last edited by ATControlFreak; 05-16-2015, 10:20 AM.
