4-7-8 breathing technique that claims to help you nod off in 60 SECONDS

I read this article and thought about all the TBH'rs who have trouble going to sleep. Sounds interesting.

4-7-8 breathing technique that claims to help you nod off in 60 SECONDS

The method, pioneered by Harvard-trained Dr Andrew Weil, is described as a 'natural tranquiliser for the nervous system' helping to quickly reduce tension and allowing the body to relax.

It was pioneered by Arizona-based Dr Andrew Weill who says on his YouTube channel: 'It is utterly simple, takes almost no time, requires no equipment and can be done anywhere.'
To do the 4-7-8 breathing technique, you first need to exhale completely through your mouth while making a 'whoosh' sound.
Close your mouth and inhale quietly through your nose to a mental count of four.
Now hold your breath for a count of seven.
After this time has elapsed, exhale completely through your mouth, making another whoosh sound for eight second in one large breath.
Now inhale again and repeat the cycle three times for a total of four breaths.
'Note that you always inhale quietly through your nose and exhale audibly through your mouth.
'The tip of your tongue stays in position the whole time,' Dr Weil says.

I don't know about the 60 seconds thing, but it should help you fall asleep faster. It's a way to slow your heart rate quickly

I've been using this technique for about 6 months. It seems to work for me. I don't fall asleep in 60 seconds but it has worked for me. I would say less than 10 mins.

Is passing out from hyperventilation the same as falling asleep now?

got a little light headed when I tried it. Felt like i wasn't getting enough air because the exhale is longer than inhale? Sound right?

I saw this on the news this morning. The doctor said 20 minutes. He said divide the last hour of your day into 20 min segments. First 20 to organize for tomorrow, second 20 to wind down, and 20 min of 478 breathing.

I have better results with the 4-7-8 beers method. Works every time!
