    Calling in Axis bucks

Anyone ever rattle or grunt in an axis buck? Let's hear it!

    #2
I have not had any success calling in Axis. Just gotta be at the right place ...right time.

They do not come to feeders where I hunt. But I have shot several, bow & gun at a natural corridor / funnel where there is no feeder at all.

they seem to travel mid day ALOT.

they will roar when herding does.

I have found them by hearing and following the sound of bucks fighting. I don't see why you couldn't rattle one in. There is a youtube video of a guy using an elk cow call and an axis buck sort of responding/walking towards him. They will move and bellow at all times of the day and night. They like to lay out on semi open hillsides and in fields under the low tree branches.
They hammer feeders where I hunt, but not this time of year with the green salad buffet.
        Good luck Cuz!

I've gotten there attention and have even stopped them for a shot with a hoochie mama elk call before. Can't say I've actually called one in though.

I've had my best success hunting over water at hottest time of day.

Well they don't grunt. But I kept listening to the does. One day the light bulb started flickering. So I went and bought somethin to try. Primos Hoochie Mamma. First evening I had 3 yearling bucks almost get in the ground blind with me. About an hour later I pulled in a roughly 30 incher to about 35 yards. All free range axis.

Like said above, a cow elk call seems to get their attention. Not sure it will "bring" them in, but they don't run from it either.

I bought a Hoochie-Momma for that reason. Haven't put it to the test yet.

Tried the hoochie mama too. Over 2 years, I've had 1 answer to it. Whenever I can hear them around, I hoochie call, but have never had one come in.

I cannot find anything at all that will remotely resemble that roar the Bucks make.

Don't they bark as well? Is that the equivalent of a whitetail blowing?
