Looking at the TDA website and licensing requirements, it looks like I'd need a commercial applicators license to be able to apply fertalizers and weed killers for my lawn customers.

Commercial applicator: operates a business or is employed by a business that applies restricted-use or state-limited-use pesticides to the property of another person for hire or compensation.

o Commercial Pesticide Applicator License Fee = $180/year

Not sure it would be worth it at this point since I just started my business up a last year and have been taking it slow on acquiring new customers, but hate to take the chance that they will tighten up requirements in the coming years that would not allow me to get the license.
Yes, you need your commercial license.

I took the general standards exam a month ago, and didn't feel it was too bad.

I guess I got mine back in 2002 or so. I had to go to a classroom type setting in a back room of a diner in a po dunk town. We had like 3 hours of class then a video to watch and then took the test. It was pretty much common sense stuff. I passed.

Held it for about 15 years when I was a AG chemical rep.........when I went into pharmaceuticals I let it lapse. Simple stuff if you are familiar with any of the biology concepts. Like said earlier, common sense stuff.

You can apply fertilizer without a license.

I found a 10 hour on line class. It take about 3 hours to get thru it. I think it cost $100. I got my private license about 2 years ago. Took an all day class in Caldwell TX. Test was easy.
