Closed cell on residential you typically see 3" on ceilings and 2" walls. I have a 30x40 shop that I had closed cell sprayed in 2" ceiling and 1" walls and it make at least a 15-20 degree difference in the middle of summer if not better and I have never had anything freeze in the shop.
I have no personal experience with open cell other than it looks terrible if you were to leave any areas exposed. Closed cell can be painted and doesn't look half bad. A buddy of mine who is a home builder says they no longer use open cell.
    Good luck!

Great information. The cost for that closed foam above it still more than I thought. It ran 1300 or so for 1000 sf. That seems pretty expensive but I also haven't priced anything, just merely a feeling.

Thats easy...show her the second most expensive pair ever made. Win Win.

We had closed cell sprayed between the floor joists to replace fiberglass on our pier and beam house on Lake Cypress Springs and it made a big difference.

Check Lowes and Home depoe, I have seen the foam kits there much cheaper than the ones offer on line.
