    1998 Yamaha 150 problem

while running boat , engine warning buzzer comes on and boat shuts down. I turn key off and turn back on in one minute, no buzzer. Take back off and go one to two miles and same thing happens.Turn key back off again, wait one minute, turn key on , no buzzer, take back off again. I just had a new water pump on it. I have 20lbs of water pressure each time it shuts down. Engine does not seem to be hot for it to take off that quick every time. Can anyone help me on what the problem might be. Thanks

Did you let it get low on oil? Air in the small resevoir on the motor will cause the alarm to go off. Take the cap off and fill it up.

No. Oil reservoir was full. I filled it before I launched.

the engine does not appear to be hot. Each time it shuts down I can take off in less than a minute. Would faulty thermostats make it act like this ? or do you think it could be a oil tank sensor or power and tilt sensor problem? Thanks

There is a smaller oil reservoir on the motor. If it got air in it then the alarm will go off. Or your oil pump isn't keeping up with the usage and when the float gets low enough the horn goes off. Is it a solid buzzer or is it beeping? A constant warning means it is overheating. You might have a bad sensor.

It is a constant buzzer. Same sound if your motor gets hot. If its a oil problem does that make a constant buzzer sound also?

No, the low oil warning should not be a constant buzzer. If you just had a new water pump/impeller then maybe something wasn't hooked back up right. Can you see the water coming out before it shuts off? My bet is on a bad sensor.

It is peeing a hard stream. never stops peeing hard. It shows 20lbs of water pressure as it is shutting down

My 1988 Yamaha has a constant buzzer for low oil.

I forgot to fill the tank last weekend and it went off. Thought I was overheating, til I realized what I had done. Topped off the oil and good to go! (it also went into limp mode when this happened)

That is what I thought the problem was to begin with. If the oil gets low enough in the big tank then air can get into the smaller one on the engine and cause a warning alarm. Mine would idle fine but the alarm would go off as I came out of the hole. Deerfeeder is running a couple of miles before the alarm goes off which would indicate either overheating (but it starts right back up) or the oil is getting low in the small reservoir. Oil pump or bad sensor.

Lets us know what you find out.

Can oil get low in the small reservoir if the big tank is 9/10 full? One thing I failed to mention is each time it shutdown I was running about 30-32- mph. I tried running at 20 mph and I made it about 3 miles to the boat launch with out it shutting down. Does this shed in light on figuring out the problem?

I checked little oil reservoir on engine and it was full. so would that tend to make you think it is a Thermostat problem not a oil pump problem.
