If you're not hunting, try Skin-So-Soft by Avon. Has something in it gnats don't like. Won't work for mosquitos, though.

Yep, the SSS works great, but it has an odor and is oily.

Yes, rub it on your face and arms. put it in a spray bottle and spray it all over you. It works great!

I am never bothered by knats while hunting. There used to be a product out there called Cover up (it was vanilla based) I mixed my own up pure vanilla and water 1/2 and 1/2. Skeeters with Thermacell. The vanilla is also a good cover scent.
