    Gnats.....

Does anyone have a remedy to keep gnats off aside from wearing a bug suit to work. I've learned to live w/ mosquitoes and can keep them off, but all the gnats we have out here are going to have me in a straight jacket in no time. There's places on the ranch that I can't step out of the truck for 10 seconds and I've got them crawling all over me, in my ears, up my nose, around my eyes..... Is there any way to keep these dang things off?

If you're not hunting, try Skin-So-Soft by Avon. Has something in it gnats don't like. Won't work for mosquitos, though.

Those tiny creatures will drive a person crazy. I think one of them is worse than dozens. For some reason, one knat will consistently escape the wrath of a swatting hand. If you find out what works, let us know.

I have found the ThermaCell to be very effective on mosquitos but practically worthless on gnats! Stinky ole DEET seems to work best for me for gnats.

Yep, my Thermacell works great on skeeters but nothing works on gnats during deer season... If you want to see deer!!

So Deet may be the answer. I really dislike wearing too much Deet when it is hot. The stuff burns around the neck area. However, I dislike being bit by mosquitoes and bothered by knats worse.

what do you use to cover up deet scent, or does it matter?

I use my Thermacell and it works good but I still get a few gnats and they seem to love the eyes, nose, and ears. Little turds can ruin a hunt. I have had some luck with the AVON Skin-so-soft Bug Guard plus Expedition unscented. This is in the green can. It does smell a little when you put it on but goes away. and I put a little bit of pete Rickards fresh earth on over it and I have never been busted by the smell yet. And it will keep the gnats from crawling on you. Repels Mosquitoes and Deer Ticks too for 8 hours.

Real vanilla is what we use.

Although it has been the best $20 bucks I have spent on ANY hunting item in a long time.............. Thermacell is useless against knats.

If they come out with something that works in them as good as they do for skeeters........... I'll by it. But for now, it doesn't even faze the knats.
