    Open Carry?

As I read all these threads, post, blogs or whatever you want to call them all over the internet about open carry from gun loving Texans, some for open carry and some against it. It made me wonder, why in the world is a pro gun person against open carry? It doesn't make any sense to me. Is it that they are scared of seeing people with guns? I just don't understand it. Do they not realize that we are fighting to get a right back that was taken from us law biding citizens years ago? If you look at the map of which states that allow it and that are against it. Texas is really the only true red state that its outlawed in. We are one of 6 states. This puts us in the same category as anti gun states like CA,NY, and IL. I don't know many Texans that want to be in any category with those states especially when it comes to gun laws. So I say to the guys who are against it, look at the bigger picture of gun rights. Not the fact that you wont ever open carry so no one else should.

It's an irrational fear...if they won't accept perfect case studies from other states proving this will not be an issue, then how do you get them to grasp it unless it's passed & realized through actual experience.

There will be initial issues due to pure ignorance of those who don't even know it's being considered, but that will pass in short order...other than this, the downside is simply unfounded if you look at it rationally through REAL world experience with years of history.

This right here! I live in an open carry state and OC myself. I have yet to run into or hear about any of the situations that are commonly described by those that are concerned.

I imagine many more stores will post no open carry (God forbid more 30.06 also). So will y'all stop going to any stores anymore?? Some will be OK with it but at least at first I bet most will post no guns at all...

I am definitely pro-gun but I am on the fence about open carry. The problem is the fear of the "idiots". There are those that like to push the extent of the law just for the sake of pushing the law - but mainly doing it for attention. That attention is almost always negative attention and in the grand scheme of things, can be negative for pro-gun people in the long run.

They don't support me, I don't support them.

I'm all for them being able to do it on private property.

How would they push the limits of the law? It's already out in the open for all to see.

Speaking of open carry, which I am for, my wife just saw a guy" jumping the gun" (pun intended)on it at Wal-Mart. She said he was just walking around with it in a holster on his hip. It didn't bother her, she said he was drinking a sprite strolling around. I told her to warn him it's not ok to do yet, but he got in his truck and drove off.

Maybe it was a pre 1894 replica black powder pistol, which is perfectly ok to open carry now.

I have a chl. I carry said weapon 98% of the time. Criminals don't know I carry and don't see me as a threat. Bad oversight on their part. Open carry just draws undue attention onto yourself and riles up the natives. Why would you want to scare women and children? Don't give me that "liberal argument" either Mike D. Your actions cause equal reactions from unarmed citizens. I am pro gun. I sleep with mine. I am teaching my 4 year old gun safety and trigger squeeze already, but not everyone is like us. We are not a majority. We must respect the views of other citizens. Many do not bat an eye at concealed carry and even like to know that there are people out there who are packing heat. Gun violence is not liberal jargon, it is a statement of fact. Guns scare some people!!! I respect both views, but I doubt I will ever open carry. It protects me and my family from undue attention.
