    Boyd's stock install - Remington Model 7

Not long ago, I scored a sweet deal from a good friend on a Remington model 7 in 7mm-08. The synthetic stock was super light, and fit nicely, but my plans all along were to get a wood stock for it, as it's a gun I hope to pass down to a grandkid someday.

I've always liked the looks of Boyd's laminate stocks, and the price is quite nice too, so I ordered one for this rifle.

Ordering was super easy. Click, click, click, and done. Just select the brand, model, and action length, then the style and color of stock.

I chose the Prairie Hunter in Nutmeg. Just $97 plus shipping. I consider that an absolute steal. After getting this stock in my hands, I would have gladly paid 2x that amount (don't tell Boyd's! )

Here she is before and after.

I will eventually glass bed the action, but the barrel is almost completely free-floated. Just a tiny bit of contact at the end, which may go away when I bed it, but if not, should only take a minute to clear. Most of the barrel easily passed the dollar-bill test.

I think it looks fantastic, and can't wait to finally get it on the range. The little extra heft of the wood stock should make the 7-08 shoot sweet.

If any of you have been curious about ordering one of these, I say go for it. I'm beyond pleased.

BTW, that little bit of raised cheek piece on the Boyd's stock gives me a fantastic cheek weld. It puts my eye perfectly in line with my scope.

Here's what I ordered. I agree, that lighter colored laminated wood looks pretty sharp. But they have enough choices to satisfy just about anyone, including laser engraving, custom tips and pads, and lots of other cool things.

Bought a boyds stock for my marlin XL7, great look and some light sanding...free floated barrel!

            Good choice, looks great!

I've been looking at a new Boyds for my Model 70. It's a post 64 with no floor plate, basically it's a budget model 70. Last year the stock warped on me. I can't decide if I want a laminated stock or a straight walnut. This is my mountain hunting rifle, so I'm leaning toward laminated due to its better weather tolerability. Nor can I decide on a classic or another style. My stock now has no cheek piece, and I've always liked it.

              Yours looks nice!!

Thanks Grizz. I was torn between the classic straight stock ( I like the look of those lines) or this Prairie Hunter with the raised cheek piece.

After getting this one in my hands, I made the right choice. It looks super sharp, and man that cheek weld is second to none. Best fit I've ever had on a rifle stock. Puts my eye at the perfect position for my scope.

Bringing this thread back from the dead...

I have a question about the recoil pad on the boyds. Is it a brand name? If so which one. Is it any good?

Interested in one of these for my daughters rifle. They make youth stocks?

The one that comes stock just had boyds on it. You can choose to upgrade to pachmeyer and maybe a couple other brands for 30 or so dollars.

Yes they do, you can say the lop to whatever you want when you design it, Although there might be a slight Upcharge. Still worth the 130 or so it would run you.

I was able to get a left handed thumb hole stock for a right handed action. fits me to a "T".
