I was being a smart ***** but I like Bowhunting. Nothing wrong with the firestick but I like flinging arrows. I agree with mudslinger, never been bored in Africa. To me it's more boring sitting on a mountain glassing and not seeing anything. Water hole or not there is always lots to look at in Africa.

Whatever you do, enjoy yourself and take lots of pictures. I know it wasn't an option, but I personally would be taking my primary bow in one case and my backup bow in another case. I've been twice and did that both times. You can easily use a rifle there if you want to.

On the two trips, I shot 22 animals with my bow and 1 with a rifle. We did some predator calling one day and I used the guide's rifle to shoot a jackal.

Absolutely do not overlook alot of the small game and night time hunting. I had more fun bowhunting baboons, monkeys, genet, civet cat, african poecupine, and honey badger than I did all the other stuff.

And finally...more than anything. Down the road, if you find yourself RIFLE hunting a different African country, Please do not come back here and overly criticize SA BOWHUNTING because you've been somewhere else with a rifle and actually don't have any archery kills of your own to share because you have actually never experienced bowhunting in SA and how much fun and enjoyable it can be on the right place and experience.

Good luck to you and be sure and share your trip and pics with us once you return.

I love bowhunting, but I'd take the .300 Weatherby as my first choice (from that list). I don't want to go to Africa and spend all my time sitting in a blind. I want to get out and spot and stalk. I realize you can attempt spot and stalk with a bow too, but if I'm in Africa I want to bring home some trophies too.

After I've been on a rifle hunt or two over there, I'll go back with my bow.

The bigger animals I'll probably use a rifle, unless the ph can convince me to go with the bow as a better option. It wouldn't take much convincing.
Headed there this August with primary bow & a reliable backup bow.
