what would you take to S.A. for plains game?

If you had the choice of taking two out of three of these weapons to hunt plains game in South Africa which would they be?

    1. bow
    2. .300 weatherby mag
    3. 7x57 mauser

I am leaning towards the bow and the 7x57. Game will be kudu, impala, black wildebeast, and warthog.

I woukd take bow only. In a good spot in South Africa you will kill all you want with a bow. If you insist on taking the firestick then I woukd also carry along the 300 wby. It's easy to borrow a rifle over there. Why not just take a bow and then borrow a rifle if you want to reach out and touch someone? No paperwork that way.

1 and 2. When I finally make my way over there, I'm taking my bow and my 300 Wby. I've heard a lot of people say that spot and stalk with a rifle was something you needed to do in Africa. I'm a bow only guy, but wouldn't think twice about using a rifle in Africa.

1 & 2 but try and stick to the bow. I'm taking my bow and 300 wsm when we go next year.

That idea is worth a thought doc, thanks. Call me paranoid but I do not know if I could trust a rifle that was not mine lol. I'm going to try and take the warthog and impala with the bow. The bigger animals I'll probably use a rifle, unless the ph can convince me to go with the bow as a better option. It wouldn't take much convincing.

I have been to Africa 3 times and Bowhunting only. I shot 8 animals the first trip, 14 the second and 7 on the last one. Plenty of killing to be had no matter what weapon you choose. It's a blast and I can't wait to go back.

Only one vote for the 7x57! I was thinking that over the .300 just because of the nostalgia. .300 is a force to reckon with though..

As quick as they are, might be the hardest to get with a bow. If you think a whitetail can jump an arrow wait till you see a warthog or impala.

Your bow will easily kill kudu and anything else.

That being said, next time i go i do want to spot and stalk with iron sights.

Spot and stalk would be fun open sights Txag. I bet those impala can jump! Ive only killed one whitetail with the bow, which is the main reason I want to take a rifle as well. I am really comfortable with my bow although it is not my strongest area.
