Never Ending Ranch Work
Went and filled protein feeders today, 2 were totally empty and one was 75% empty. Pigs had emptied the pig pipe in the trap as well so we filled that back up. And fired my new (to me) Mini 14, killed a few rocks and stumps. The Texan also brought the ranch truck back to town to be serviced, and have the road feeder and light bar wired in.
In these photos you can see our pen set up, 8 hog panels with a barbed wire running at the top of the T posts to keep the horses out. One panel and string of wire unhooks and swings in so we can easily back the truck into the pen.
In this last photo, the blue polygon represents the 98 acres burned. It was semi successful...

This past weekend we did a lot of work at the ranch. Started with filling all the protein feeders and corning the roads. Did a little scouting and then the storm hit. From Thursday night to Sunday morning we had 6 inches of rain. The pond has gone up roughly 6 feet and about 40 yards up the bank. The Texan says this is the highest its been in 6 or so years. It was an experience to see all the creeks filled and moving. The rain didn't stop the work.
We got the guzzlers finished, but noticed the hoses were leaking at the female side and so will have to fix that problem next trip. However we closed the valve and just on friday night, with 1.5 inches of rain, we got about 50 gallons. Next we worked on our first tree platform. Took a little time to figure out exactly how it will sit and it turned out great. I'll post some pictures below and hopefully the others will post a few of the finished guzzlers.

Unfortunately we were a little late not he burn this year and it just never took off like we wanted. It did get some areas. This weekend driving around the area we burned, you could barely tell anything had been burned. With the rain we've had this spring since the burn, everything is green and growing. Next year we plan to learn from this experience and start earlier.
