    Hog panel height questions

Tractor Supply has 16'X34" hog panels. Is 34" tall enough? Are 50" cattle panels too tall for feeder pens?
And on 16' panels, is one tpost every 16' ok, or should I put one in the middle? What's the smallest diam you would go with hog panels?? 6/8?
Also have thought about small openings for fawns. I know it would let in small pigs also but my thought is if the large ones can't get in, pretty soon they won't come around. ??

if you use the 50" you can make cutouts at whatever intervals you want for the deer to jump over. They can jump 50" anyways but will sometimes gravitate to the lower sections. Not sure about small openings for the fawns. One guy on our place has 34" hog panels. He has a section cut lower on it that you can step over. The cows never go in even though it is lower. On some places I bet the cows would step right over it. I am going to use the 50" panels and cut several sections lower.

I like the 42" panels or goat wire for mine, but they're good size pens. If you cut a hole for the fawns the smaller hogs still eat all the corn. Sows will let the piglets feed while they wait outside on guard duty. Sometimes I fold down one spot to make it easier for the deer to get out.

I use the 34's without many problems. The fawns can jump that pretty soon after birth.

Wasn't there a study that said a 26" panel was tall enough to keep hogs out. My thoughts were always to cut a 60" panel in half and stick the pointed ends in the ground.

Hogs are opportunist eaters and if they can't get there, they'll move on.

Tommy, I like to use the cattle panel on all sides EXCEPT right in front of my stand. I use a 34" hog panel there. It encourages the deer to came around the pen and jump the lower fence. They prefer the easiest place to jump over.

Also, if you have cows, put T-posts every 8 feet which will have one in the middle of each panel.

For our feed pens in Throckmorton we used 8 34"X16' hog panels with a t-post every 8 foot and never had any pigs or cows try and get in. We put the same type feeder pen up at my dad's lease in Montague and he had 1 cow get in the first week. He put up a hot wire about 4" above the panel and hasn't had a problem since.

I've used the 34" hog panels with a t-post every 8'. I wouldn't use less than 5 panels to go around a feeder. That being said I don't have cows where I hunt. This set up keeps hogs out though.

We use hay rings then wrap the inside with 8" panel on the inside. A little barbed wire or panel on the top and.you are good to go. Havent lost one yet...

I think he is talking about trapping pigs. . .not excluding them.

I just bought 50" panels and cut in half to make a feed pen. Not worried about cows only pigs. Recommend 2 t post per 16 ft. I also have a feed pen that is 34" high and haven't had a pig in there yet. I put a camera on the new on to see if any pigs get in.

If some pigs get in all I have to do is run 1 strand of barbed wire. Three 50" panels cost 60 bucks and when cut in half will give you a 30 ft circle.

I cut in half then run a strand of barbwire. They are about 24in high. I buy 6 panels and the feed pen is 48x48. I also buy the 5ft tposts instead of the 6. They are easier to drive and don't cost as much.

If the pen is around a corn feeder - just make sure the pen is big enough that no corn is thrown outside.

I've never had hogs get in using the 34" panels.
