East Texas Leases - Timber company sites

I am looking to lease a small piece (maybe 50 to 200 acres) of land in East Texas, hopefully within an hour of Longview. It is just to have a place close to take my grandsons to get them in the outdoors, hunting, shooting, riding 4 wheeler, etc. I have a great lease for hunting in Junction, so the primary purpose is not to have great game numbers, but would really be nice if it had some game, especially hogs.

I have been googling for timber company plots, not easy to find! Wanted to see if anyone knew of a good timber company site, or any other leads.

If you have any questions about the Campbell site or procedure let me know. I currently lease three tracts from them and am looking at another.

Yep, i got a 200 acre lease in Kirbyville, get ready for trespassers, stolen items they will rob you blind. I'm getting rid of it. its not worth the time. all your doing is just setting up your land for the locals to hunt it when your gone. best of luck to you. and just a word of advise. if there is no gate there and you build a gate there, it will be gone by the time you come back. them locals dont want you changing up there routine of trespassing.

ThePap, I have three leases from Campbell in Nacogdoches county and have not had that problem. I have had one for seven years and the only time anything disappeared was when a pipeline was going thru and gave some points of access to the property. I lost one feeder and two ladder stands but that has been it and that was several years ago. Maybe I am the exception rather than the rule but I get real tired of the broad brush painting east Texas as nothing but trespassers, thieves, and night hunters. When I first moved here over 30 years ago I would come closer to agreeing because I came to know some of the biggest outlaws in this county. Times are changing, just not fast enough for some.

im right off 317 and i dont want to burst your bubble or offend you but its full of tresspassers, wanderers and thieves. they have no respect for personal property even though i can drive thru my gate and lock it behind me them punks made a trail around my gate with 4wheelers and flip my feeders, steal cameras. there is nothing else to do up there. i even tried hiding my stuff in less accessable locations and they still find it. i hate hunting there because im worried about my truck and all the stuff in the bed while im in the blind.

Here is my experience leasing from Campbell in the past 5yrs leasing in Jasper county. If you can scout the place before you bid and get it close to home plant some food plots hunt HARD and HANDCORN only this can be a great hunting on a budget. There are some giant bucks and a lot of hogs. I have been lucky to find a place 2hrs from home and I was able to take at least a doe or two each year. Only had one camera and stand stolen in 5yrs. That being said if you are 4hrs away and hunt a couple of weekends a yr put your feeders/cameras wide open areas you increase chances of stuff growing legs and walk away. Tresspassing and 4wheeler riding can be a nuisance but you cant control what other people do when you are not there. For under $700/person ~200ac 2hr from home it makes sense to me.
You can pm me if you have any questions

One thing that helps me is that the tract I have had for seven years is less than a mile from the house so I can check it daily if I want to. One is about four miles and the other is seven miles so I can constantly keep tabs on them.
