The whole last scene on the roof in the sandstorm wasn't in the book as I recall. As far as I remember he didn't shoot the other sniper at 2100m either. And also my 8 yr old doesn't flinch when he shoots his deer rifle as much as cooper does when he shoots in the movie. My brother who is a marine scout sniper was really ****** about him leaving his rifle at the end. I'm told that would never happen! Ever! Snipers don't do that!
    Yeah I think you might be overthinking that one.
    American Sniper
    2014 ‧ Drama film/Action ‧ 2h 14m

    It says drama not documentary there is a reason Cooper is in Hollywood and not the Middle East. I am certain several of the events were not exact but to create dramatic effect. I thought it was well done and a great movie.

      Best line of the move - "I'm better when it's breathing." Loved that!

          So it's not a big deal to change his first kill to a kid instead of a woman? How the hell is that not a big deal? That's a big difference!

            And if you're gonna make a military movie at least make the effort to make it as real as possible. Lone survivor was a more quality made movie. Just from a quality standpoint. It's like they just threw american sniper together at the last minute. It ****** me off that they cut corners. It does Chris Kyle a disservice. That should **** everybody off.

                Saying he killed a kid instead of a women isn't really a little detail.

                  I didn't say little...I would hope any sniper would kill a martyr be it a kid, twins in a stroller, or a bag of bomb wrapped puppies to save fellow troops. That's the horror of war & they do what they have to do. It's a drama not a documentary. I don't see how it belittles/insults the warrior.

                  I doubt Chris is looking down & Mrs. Kyle are throwing fits over this, the flinching or leaving a gun behind...when other folks here say that grown men came out crying, some applauded & others audiences were in stone silence?? Sounds like Eastwood did a stand up job. I'll give my own personal feedback after I see it.

                    I apologize to everyone if my opinion ruins for anybody. I guess I'm being too picky. Chris was a great warrior and I'm proud he's from our great state. God bless him!

                      I've posted this elsewhere here but here it is again in case you are interested. I was actually pretty disappointed with the movie and I'm sorry if that offends anyone.

                        man...some of those reviews make you wonder. What planet is this guy from??

                        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                        I watched this in amazement, was he supposed to be a hero ? No a deranged maniac would be a more accurate assessment. If I have to have life's purpose is to die a hero cultural propaganda please at least make if mildly entertaining. The pregnant wife melodrama, the constant militaristic bull. They are evil less than human, savages so that allows us to kill them, whatever lets you sleep at night, literally. Utter reheated garbage
                        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

                        Gunny...I had no problem with your remarks. That's an honest review but wow on the hatred of anti-war crowd. Why did they even go?? 4 said the above was helpful which you know they are biased going in and none commented on yours?? I don't go to the big screen that often but Now I know why I don't listed to critics & pass my own judgement.

                          Yup. I agree.
                          I feel a little disloyal not being overwhelmed by it like most folks if you know what I mean.

                              I understand & have read the book twice. I'm a reader & always prep myself that there is just no way to live up to what any good book can do on the screen...you will appreciate Victory Point if you haven't already.

                                I think it's just a shame you weren't able to submerse yourself into the movie and enjoy it for what it was, a movie, and not a documentary. It was made and created by Hollywood, not the history channel. You obviously went in with a critical spirit rather than a spirit of enjoyment.
                                Was it perfectly true to life? No. Was iit still a good movie? Yes. You got hung up on the first kill being a kid rather than a woman. If my memory serves me correctly, his first kill was actually a woman carrying a baby. You tell me which is worse. As far as I'm concerned, both. Truth be known, Eastwood is already going to get lambasted for making a patriotic movie about a sniper with more kills than anyone. Why make it worse than it already is and have him shooting a woman with a baby? Both are bad. One, though it doesn't make much sense, will have worse ramifications than the other. Maybe at some point in time, you'll be able to see it again and just enjoy it for what it was meant to be, entertainment.
                                And for those that said it discredited Kyle, I vehemently disagree. Cooper did an excellent job and painted an excellent picture of an American hero.
