    Found a buck skeleton???

About a month ago I found a dead buck by one of my feeders. Now that it's just a skeleton can I legally keep the head? And if I can do I tag it?

I don't know the answer to this but I would assume yes...your not harvesting any meat and I don't see that being any different from finding a shed outside of season...post pics of the buck!!

Yes you can keep the head and no you don't have to tag it. I'd suggest taking a picture of the carcass with your phone before removing the head just in case.

When we found two of our bucks dead, locked up, we called the game warden and he said they were ours to keep, no tags needed. If youre friendly with yours you might give him a call so he can remember talking to you about the whole deal.

          Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

Seeing as how the season is over, tagging it now would not do any good anyway.

Thought about calling him but didn't want to waste his time. Figured someone on here had been through this before.

I personally would keep it. But if you were to get pulled over and an officer sees it in your truck without a tag he might get suspicious and call a GW. It's probably best to make a call to the warden and ask. You wouldn't be wasting his time. He most likely would tell you to keep it and at least he'll know your trying your trying to make a lawful choice.

Always best to let GW know what's going on. Better safe then sorry.

If this is on a lease, you might want to check the lease agreement with the landowner first. Some lease agreements say that hunters are not allowed to take anything off the lease that they find on the property. I know of a group that lost a 5000 acre lease in Maverick county because they picked up the horns of a big buck that was poached the week before the season started. The landowner ended up getting the horns back and then kicked them off the lease at the end of the season.

In North Tx it sure is (except for spike and doe), unless he is hunting an MLD place!

You are correct Bisch. I'm sad to say my season is over. Maybe the hogs will come back.
