Most locksmiths have code books and all they need to do is look it up and can rekey from the code.

Failing that, locks are fairly easy to pick and once open rekeying is simple.

They can also cut a key they hard way. Smoke a blank, insert into keyway, jiggle a bit, file the shinny spot. Repeal until done. (last resort).

The hardest locks to pick are the all brass ones. The brass is a little slippery and things don't want to hang up like they should.

I've been known to pick a few locks in my day John, I'd be interested in giving it a try if you'd like.

Just use two paper clips. It really is easy.

Jerp I have some picks and I'm willing to give it a try. If you want to borrow them and give it a try I can do that too.

John, Whatever you do, do not damage that trunk! They are beyond cool! I had one given to me when I was in college and did not know what I had. Do you know if it is empty? There could be real treasure in that thing... Even the trunk itself could be a treasure. One side will have drawers. When you get it open, pull the drawers out carefully, and look under bottom side... good place to find things taped or otherwise stored there... Post up some pics when you get it open... Mine was scarlet on the inside... Seen some that were blue and some pink...
