I'm in Seg A and I'll be using a bow. I'm not familiar with the Goode unit (archery only) but I'll scout it and see how it looks. Like a lot of folks I'm wondering if all of the archers will crowd that area. I have a couple spots in the other units in mind from previous scouting but based on the thread comments I'll have a LOT of hunter orange on when on the ground. I might take a little blue cooler for safety too.

I asked the refuge about parking during the hog hunt and they said it will be the same as the deer hunt. They said they were keeping the designated parking to make sure nobody blocks a gate or road. Here's the parking map from this year's deer hunt. Of course it only covers the parking in 3 units that were open to deer hunt this year.

Has anyone heard if there is a mandatory orientation like the deer hunt? Nothing I have read mentions anything about one. Can we hang stands on Thursday like the deer hunt?

its my understanding there will be no orientation.

there will be a self check-in and check-out, 5AM and 1 hour after sunset.

      all kills must be reported

and thursday is hang stand, set up blind, etc day. have to be off the refuge by 2 PM i believe...

does anyone use a pop-up out there?

i remember seeing pics of somebody using one during a deer hunt.

i was thinking about setting up a small one and brushing it in a little bit.

after reading about last years hunt, i pretty much think i will spot and stalk hunt, but the blind could be cool if i placed it correctly...

Especially with people pushing the hogs.

Looks like nanza is the same weekend as seg B. Thankfully I can't make nanza this year.

Gonna call in the morning... Hoping my check can be ripped up. Bownanza has priority over this hunt for me. Good luck to everyone! Hope you get a tag Brandon!

Got my permit today for seg b. Think it will be fun and good scouting opp for future deer hunts.
For those using shotguns, are most using slugs or buckshot? Im having a hard time finding non toxic buck shot. May have to re scope my slugster. Would prefer the other but not sure on ammo. Buddy suggested #2 steel t shot w full choke, may can go that route.

i think most are using copper slugs ^^^

i'm gonna be shooting sabot-ed copper .50 cal hollow tips in my muzzleloader...

i hear you, a slug strategically placed is gonna be better than a ****** off hog full of buckshot...

best of luck to you sir...
