I love how questions on here turn into someone posting there opinion. If you're not going to contribute keep comments to yourself.

If 48 is the low, then it likely will be warmer than that until 5am or so. Considering it takes a dead animal a long time to cool off if it isn't cut open, that hog is gona be dead AND warm most of the night. Personally, I'd go find it for a pic but wouldn't want to eat it. If I was dirt poor or this was 150 yrs ago it would've been a different story...would've gotten it tonight.

          Calm down.

IMO, if he's dead go find it.
If you find him first thing in the morning, skin it and ice the meat.
If your uncomfortable, find it and learn from it and don't skin it.

If he would have gutted it you would have reduced the weight drastically to drag it out, also it would have aloud it to cool off.... Uncle Ted never backs out! I wouldn't touch that hog the next day personally

              I'm calm.
People will quit asking questions or posting picks if every time someone post a comment bashing them or making a comment that doesn't help the OP.

There will be nothing wrong with the meat, but the meat on boars can be strong some times. People are way to paranoid these days.

Meat will be fine, unless any gut/intestines were hit.

                      1) I just asked if the meat would be safe for him to eat. And how long you guys let pork sit. Wasn't really interested in opinions on when to shoot or recover game.
                      2) He just started bow hunting, this is his first bow kill. I told him he could kill a pig in my stand and he went for it. He's psyched to eat his first bow kill and I'd just like to be safe with the meat.
Thanks for the advice fellas. Appreciate it.

I personally wouldn't eat it tomorrow especially if it was sunny there today and it did not die in the shade. I've seen the up side go bad just from sun exposure even on cool days. I say find it in the morn, take some pics, and call it a day.

Congrats to your brother on his first bow kill! Get some good photos for him tomorrow. I wouldn't eat it after it sat all night with the intestines in it, but that's just me. Like some folks have said it depends on where it was shot, when it died and how cold it really gets tonight. I just wouldn't chance it, but sounds like other folks would. Again tell your brother congrats and I'm sure y'all will figure it out when its recovered and y'all get an up close look at it.

                            To answer your question.

                            Until he decomposed.

I've let em sit overnite in 60 degrees and they ate just fine. Just try to fine it asap.

It's iffy at those temps. In my experience big boars are bad eating. Wait till morning and evaluate then when your recover it.
