How long have you let a hog lie?

My brother just stuck this big boar hog. About 2 hrs ago. Lots of blood but he went off into a thick ravine bottom. He heard him die down in there but backed out just to be sure. Going to bring the horse in first thing tomorrow to pull it out. Question; it's 48 degrees, how long can a hog sit and still be edible? I've never eaten a boar hog, let alone one that's sat for a while.

If you heard him die why wouldn't you just go get him tonight?

I dunno that I would bother cleaning him if he sat all night unless it was pretty cool.

Not really sure. By the time he sent me the picture he was already in the truck heading home. Said he wasn't sure it was dead. With no pistol he didn't want to chance it. If it really did die in that bottom there's no way he could have drug it out himself anyway.

That's what I would do. Probably wouldn't eat it after laying all night.

Well I kill a lot of hogs so I don't mess with boars unless intake the straps out. I personally wouldn't mess with one the next day but it's cold enough that the meat should be ok.

Would say it was a kill and call it a night, then find him and hunt over him as his buddys that used to be his friends will like him more for breakfast!

Buzzards gotta eat too. I wouldn't even go back for it.

Tons of bacteria in a hog. 48 aint near cold enough to let him lay and I personally wouldn't even bother with him if you have to wait till morning. Just ain't even worth the risk!

I'd just leave it. Not like there are 4-6 million more hogs out there to kill lol.

I'll say it. Just because it is a hog doesn't change anything.

Bowhunting hogs when you have neither time or inclination to track and recover the animal is plain wrong. With a bow you know the hog will run after being shot. If you don't have the balls to track bow shot hog alone in the dark, don't bow shoot one.

Use a large rifle like a 45-70 and drop it in place if you have to go home soon after the shot.

I agree with Skinny. I would only move it tomorrow, if I thought it would disturb my hunting for any reason.

If he's over 100 pounds I leave him for the birds. This is just me.
