      My 2005 Chevy is a tad over 150k now and still gets good fuel mileage and burns no oil. I'll be keeping ol Hemi Killer for a few more years.

        Keep the truck... replace unreasonable wife...

        Settle down I'm just kidding...kinda of.

        I'm with the group to say keep it. Start paying yourself $600.00 a month into a savings or money market account and call it truck replacement account.In one year you will have saved $7,200.00. Wanna guess how much you will have in years two and three? Once you've saved a sizable amount you can go pay cash for one.

              I would say this..... and just prepare.


              We have 3 vehicles, 105K 2000 BMW Z3, 170K 2006 Chrysler Sebring, and 260K Dodge 5.9 2500.......... we figure with a bit of maintanance and a few fixes here and there it is much cheaper than a new car payment and we know everything about them and what to expect.

                I would keep it. I bought my 05 Silverado new. It now has 269,000 on it and I just had the first part failure last week, an alternator. The truck even told me the minute it went out on the screen. Drove to the part store picked up a new one. Went home and replaced it and was only 30 minutes late for work. Those are good trucks. My electrician has 450,000 on his.

                      I have a 2004 Chevy 2500HD 4x4 gas with the same amount of miles. I periodically think about getting a new one, but there are only minor things wrong with it and a new one cost more than my first house.

                      What have you had break on your truck lately?

                        You deserve a new one, that is cool that you kept that one for 11 years, good job, now go get you another one.

                          My opinion would be, if the engine is solid, and it's just requiring maintenance that doesn't exceed a new car payment, keep it as long as you can. Make car payments to yourself into a savings account (that you don't touch for anything) instead. When your transportation becomes unreliable and/or maintenance exceeds the value of the vehicle (which includes a new vehicle payment) then you should be able to purchase a new ride in cash.

                          Or, at minimum, have a spectacular down payment.

                          We have a 1999 Ford Exploder Sport that has engine oil pressure issues, a water pump issue that just showed up, and now has started leaking oil. 176k on the clock. I'm not fixing her. I'll add fluids and complete normal maintenance but when she dies, she dies.
