Need help translating radiologist's report on shoulder injury

Went and picked up disc and report from radiologists today regarding findings of mri. There are things torn but what can I expect in terms of surgery and recovery? Would I be in a sling and appr how long?

I have researched this online but was sure there are some folks on the GS that have had the same injury and/or are in the med field that can shed some light on this for me.

My appt isn't until wednesday and am dieing to know what I can expect.

Did you ask the dr? My report looked somewhat similar. I was in a sling with the pad for 2 wks. Sling without the pad for 2 more wks, then continued rehab for another 4-6 weeks. No more pain at that point, but it took me close to a year to be back 100%

Looks to me like they are going to have to cut it off.

Looks like you have a torn rotator cuff and a torn labrum. The labrum is the fibrous tissue that connect and holds the humorous bone up into the shoulder socket.

Watching this one. I had MRI done today and will be back to see doctor later this week. How did your injury come about?

Bottom line, you messed up your shoulder, more than likely treatment will be physical therapy first. This will take time. Worst case scenario, surgery. But don't panic. Do what doctor and therapist say. If the put you in a sling. Leave it on until they take it off. If they say no lifting over 10 pounds don't lift anything over 10 pounds.

If you don't understand something be **** sure to ask questions. Remember it's your body, your in control.

Best of luck to you, your in my prayers

Not sure exactly what that means but I tore my labrum off the bone in football last year and have had recurrent dislocations ever since... I go in for surgery next Thursday

The labrum is what keeps you from dislocating your shoulder. It is a fibrous sock that goes all the way around the humorus bone and holds it into the shoulder socket. You need to get that repaired or you will regret it later.

Both of my high school boys had labrum surgery after last football season. You will need the same based on the MRI report. A lot depends on age. Did you have a dislocation? Almost always done the first time with a scope. You will have anchors placed and the labrum will be sutured to those anchors. Pain level varies by person post op. One son had tremendous pain for first week other son only a couple days. Make sure you have a good recliner as you will be sleeping in it for several weeks. Boys are 12 months and 9 months post surgery and doing great. Lifting weights and playing baseball. The labrum cannot be repaired with rehab alone. Without surgery there is a constant risk of dislocation. Good luck.

Sounds like a typical guy injury. PT is in your future.
