    Best scope?

My brother and I got drawn for the TPWD Aoudad hunt in Palo Duro canyon this February! What suggestions do you guys have on scope selection? Keep in mind I don't really want to pony up and get a $1000< scope, but I am willing to spend what's necessary...

You could spend $500 and get a Leupold VX-3 or Zeiss Conquest and that would be all you need.

Schmidt & Bender. If you don't want to spend 1000 you probably don't want to spend 3500 though. But, you did ask about the best.

Swarovski Z3. About $950, well worth it.

The only conclusion I can draw from this is you want the best scope you can get for say $500 for that application. Sounds like a long shot opportunity... like a 4-15x50, 3-9x40 minimum. To that I would say a Leupold VX3, or Nikon Monarch would get you the best optics in the 3-$500 range. Optics Planet may still have Cyber Monday Pricing on these, or you could possibly find a Zeiss Conquest on sale in the 5-$600 range. Vortex is well reviewed and worth a look. So many options to choose from, but get the best you can afford.

eBay is your friend, you can get some really high end glass for 1k. Way better than anything you could get new for that. But new...I like the Leupold VX-6 for that price.

Optics planet has 12% off certain Leupold scopes through the 6th. I'm looking to save about $140 on an already great priced mark 4.

You have lots of options from that 500-1000$ range

                        Leupold VX3
                        Vortex Viper PST or HS
Zeiss Conquest (Discontinued but should be able to find a 4-14x44 for 500-600$ish) Might find a newer HD5 in the 800-1000 range
950ish will get you a swaroski
                        Nikon Monarchs

Tasco World Class. Good as the best for a whole lot less.

I think that would be a tad heavy and difficult to mount.

I would look at Leupold or used Swarovski in this price range. Look at the cameraland demos as well. Sometimes they have great deals.
