Makes me wonder why anyone would Put up with all of it.
Picking deer to shoot before season, needing permission to shoot something
Worrying that I might make a mistake and have ALL HELL rain down on me.
All for the sake of having a deer that I may or may not get to keep to put on a wall.

Sorry but hunting for me needs to be fun not a stressful event. I can age deer but we all make mistakes and having a ranch owner steel my deer that I paid for is just F-upped. Hunting south Texas big money ranches is just not for me even if I could afford it. For what some of you big money hunter pay each season you could own your own land. Hunting= fun good times with people I enjoy being around. IMHO any person that harvests a good buck on public land is a true hunter. Anyone can buy a trophy but a real hunter earns his trophy..

Did you ever list the ranch> DId not see it. Sounds A lot like the Killiam ranch and a guy named Kitner. Have heard some things like that happening there.. But they don't shoot trophies till after Christmas so may not be that ranch..

After a while, there is a complete age structure of deer like there should be in the wild. And the best young deer are allowed to breed those extra years and reach their full potential. And the lease is very expensive!
Can he take the deer from you? I say no, but your season and lease would be over on that place.

                  That avatar buck is awesome!

                      You're a real hunter if:

You knap your own spear points.

Your wife chews your animal hide to make leather.

You have a life expectancy of 35 from living in the elements 24/7

You make snares out of saplings and ligament.

You have a dog that doubles as a snack when times get tough.

You can track your animal's track through a herd of 30 and come out on it on the other side.

You have ever had to bring the kids inside because the wolves are on the carcass.

You have ever shown up early to find a good spot in the parking lot of a NWR?

You have ever found a deer trail with tracks on it that a weekend warrior might chase something your way on?

You have ever opened your soda can so that it just goes psssssshhhhhhhhhh instead of CliPHSHAAA?

You have ever covered yourself head to toe in $150 a yard material that looks like stuff you could get for free and put in front of you?

You have ever let that jumping squirrel fool you for the 8th time this morning?

You have ever lied to, misled or kept secrets from other people in your area to keep them off of your spot?

Just trying to sort this out.

Interesting thread, I am also curious what would be the legalities. This is off of the TPWD website. Not sure how specific "hunts without landowners consent" could get....don't think it could boil down to age of the specific game...but then again, I'm not a laywer Good luck bud.

                              Unlawful Activities

                              "It is unlawful to:
A person who hunts without landowner consent and kills a desert bighorn sheep, pronghorn antelope, white-tailed deer, or mule deer commits an offense that is a Parks and Wildlife Code state jail felony. Upon conviction, your hunting and fishing license is automatically revoked."

I have read this entire thread and the only conclusion I have come to is, I will likely never spend enough money on a lease to worry about the topic of this thread.
