    Ranch confiscating your deer

Anyone had a deer confiscated by a ranch because they thought it was to young?

Never heard of this. Did you have to pay for it?

Tell us more! Sounds interesting. I wonder how the TPWD would handle that - you tag a deer, and if someone else takes it, they better have the WRD to go with it.

Don't see how that is legal. The deer doesn't belong to the ranch. It belongs to the state.

Edit: Unless the whole thing was high fenced, all native deer removed and then restocked.

Either way. If I pay and shoot then I am definitely bringing my deer home. I've heard of them fining a hunter if it doesn't meet age or size requirements but never heard of them taking the deer they would have to fight me for that one if paid for.

Hasn't happened, but always threatening the paid hunters . South Texas ranch. TPWD says ask an attorney. We're talking about a 6 yr old vs a 7 .

Need more info about the situation to be able to comment intelligently. Was this a paid hunt? A lease? Did the lease agreement, contract, terms of the hunt, whatever, address requirements or specifics of deer to be taken?

Confiscate a 6 yr old because it's too young? Wow sounds like a place I don't want to hunt. And unless they have ear tags to prove exactly how old they are, I have a hard time believing anyone can tell the difference between one that is 6 and another that is 7 on a regular basis.

I was a guest on a corporate lease once as a guest. One of many guests. Another guest shot the wrong deer and the land owner took the entire deer from the hunter and fined the guys who were leasing. They eventually got kicked off because of other mistakes.

The rules were that nothing non-typical could be harvested and the deer needed to be at least 5.5. The guy I was in camp with shot a 3 or 4 year old with multiple brow tines and baby double drops. More like tear drops but still it was a young deer.

I don't know very many people that can tell the difference in a 6 and 7 year old deer on the hoof.

If it is MLD aren’t the tags made out to the ranch? Since it would be tagged with the ranch’s tag I could see this happening.

I think it would be have a hard time holding up in court unless someone was sitting there telling the hunter not to shoot.

I've herd of it happening. It was posted on here a couple of years ago about a well known hunter killing a deer on a ranch and the game warden actually took the deer and returned it to the land owner. I'll try and find that thread.
