Being a lease manager can be stressful (long read)

Wow that's alot of drama/politics to deal with over killing a deer. I think all this trophy management bs has taken the fun out of hunting. I understand wanting big bucks etc..., but your saying you got madder than you have been in a long time. No thanks!!!! I would rather hunt public land and make my own decisions.

I sent pics of the management buck I took Friday to the LM because I understand the rules and management goals of the landowner and hunters. I like having established rules and not having so much gray area that people can abuse the system or get abused by it. I played LM on some of our leases in the past. It can be a pita but someone has to do it.

Ah.... Did I miss something? In your rules did you establish what were the repurcussions. I mean, it sounds like you boys spent some time establishing what can and can not be harvested. As a former lease manager, this will happen and there has to be a protocol for when it does. And if I can add... If this is the maddest you have gotten in a while...you might want to re-evaluate your priorities....it's only deer hunting. But don't get me wrong, I would be a bit chapped as the dude did violate a rule that sounded fairly well clear. You do have a written set if rules yes?

Even the brow tine that isn't broken isn't much of one and could be missed depending on light conditions. I'd say it's just a mistake. Either way, he payed his money and now he has meat in the freezer. I'd like to manage and kill big bucks, but I also hunt for food. I try to let them grow, but if I'm hungry, Im shooting. This is why I'll probably never be on a lease.

If you are talking about the 8 pt that he shot with a broken right brow, his G3's should have been plain as day to see... revealing that he was not the slick horned 4 pt that was the only current cull approved. Most of our hunters will kill 4 whitetail and a blackbuck doe which is plenty of meat all while staying in compliance with our rules.

Sorry to hear. Crappy situation. But on the other hand... If this situation is the most upset you've been since you can remember. Take it as a blessing. I wish I could live in a life that stress free.

I've been lease manager for several years now, and glad I don't have that drama. If it's legal, moral and ethical, people can do what they see fit.

I did get hammered last year because a guy had the game warden visited him on a tip about an illegal, untagged buck, and kicked him off the lease.

OP don't waste your time defending against the people knocking your hunting lease. They would never hunt there anyway

Um is it just me or did a fellow TBH member post the kill of this deer in a thread? I sure thought I had seen it. Or it was on a Facebook hunting page. But have seen that pic before of that buck.

It doesn't get easier either unless you make it easier on yourself first. In time dealing with these things will become less drama filled. Just too many different ways a place is ran to say what's best or to give any advice that is any good for your place.

Ive never been on a hard core managed lease, so please excuse my ignorance on my question.

Why would the landowner have say on what is killed?

Because he owns the land and decides the terms under which he would lease it?

Eventually you will loose some that don't see it your way and will game others that do. I have dealt with these issues on last leases and am dealing with the same things now. Even tho everyone "reads" the rules and agree to them some later will think they don't apply to them or will try to change the rules. It's tough to be the lease boss.
