Big bend is my favorite. Great hiking and the most amazing night time sky I've ever seen.

I highly recommend Big Bend National Park. Been going there since I was a kid. Used to cross the river and go into Old Mexico, I wouldn't do it now though.

If we do Big Bend, where is the best place to start hiking from to get the most out of it? Looking at two days of hiking one night of camping.

Also has anyone ever hiked the Eagle Rock Loop Trail in Arkansas?

Do the south rim trail. The window trail is a good day hike.

Big bend is awesome!, but quite a drive. I would give some thought to the Wichita Mts though. Beautiful area and it's full of Elk, Bison, Deer, and groundhogs to name a few. Also if you're there at the right time you can watch the guys at Ft Sill shoot ordinance up into Mts. Medicine Park is also a neat little town at the base of the mts, good eats, and 2 very nice mom an pop camping/hiking/biking shops with maps, etc...

I have hiked Eagle Loop multiple times as I grew up in that area. Very nice trail but numerous stream crossings so be prepared to wade. 2 pairs of shoes/boots is a must. If you are thinking about heading that way I would recommend the Quachita trail north of Mena Ar. There is a trail head at Queen Wilhelmina Lodge. Beautiful scenery from the tops, lots of cool rock formations, caves, and streams in the bottoms. Lots of elevation change, and very rocky (boots are a must). The lodge is also first class.

Palo Duro is awesome. Big Bend is too but for me a long way down there.

Why don't you hike and hunt. Go to amistad NRA. Hike to the back, hunt, hike out, pick a different area each day.

We thought about that but hiking in an area where others that we don't know doesn't seem like a smart move.

If you go during the week it's empty. Hunted there this week and we had the place to ourselves.

If you can book the campground next to area 3 that would give you a base camp. From there you can hunt 3 which is the least hunted area, area 1 is across the street and if you want a long hike go through three and hunt 2. As long as you stay away from thanksgiving weekend you won't see many people.

The canyon maples are putting off color this time of year at McKittrick. Miles and miles of hiking.

Yep, that would be a real fun trail to hike this time of year. I highly suggest Palo Duro and Caprock canyons up here in the panhandle as well.

Go to Mckittrick Canyon. Supposed to be beautiful in the fall. We went one summer and hiked to the campsite at the top. Absolutely stunning!
