I've found a couple im looking at buying for my son, my question: what kind of mileage can be expected out of the transmission on these trucks. Both of which are not modded if that helps

Just curious how old is your son? High School? Will he be using it regularly? Just asking because those trucks are worn out, sure they were great motors in their day but everything else is 11 years old. Stuff just wears out. My roommate who has been my best friend my whole life has one, and its just a **** power wise and upkeep wise. He got it when we started driving, and i got a newish cummins for darn near the same price, just saved my money...Just a thought their are much better options for better prices... My friend has put wayy too much money in that thing, stuff is always breaking, glow plugs, glow plug relay, A/C, transmission, oil leaks. He never tows anything and has no use for it, his dad bought it for him and it has just been a headache for a college kid like him. Not trying to knock your decision of what to buy, but just letting you know how buying a gas guzzling old truck effects a college student. Im sure he wants to look cool, but he will soon realize functionality beats looks. Been there done that

We have had a a bunch of them thru our business. Long story short they were all 94-02 models and pulled a trailer and bobcat everyday we had to replace trannys between 200 and 250,000. on all of them. We have a couple that are not used for pulling that have 275,000-325,000 on the original tranny ( they are still strong). Great trucks and the 7.3 is a great engine. Since I brought up the engine part I will add that we have one that has 459,000 on it and she( the engine) finally got tired, just had ford drop a new 7.3 in it in June. Good luck
