Like has been stated, depends on where and how open/brushy it is. 75- 100 acres is a good start.

I've got around 570 acres and it doesn't seem like enough. Years ago, if I could get 2o acres to myself, I was thrilled. Terrain, deer denisty, whether you are just there to have a good time and share experience with friends and family or to be serious about trophy hunting, will all come in to the equation

Here's my thoughts... Time to hit some I'm sure in the gut, lol... but really what I find hard to swallow are the under 40 acre hunters that shoot multiple deer ever... If you have three hunters and XX acres, are you talking about each of you shooting five deer each per year??? One of the three shoots a buck every third year... I'm ranting and will get to a great reply here directly; just had a falling out with family in the past because some people just don't get it... I set up 40 acres with food plots, and two feeders... both for bow and only one for gun; the area has small population of deer and the land was only for a single hunter me... I was not harvesting every year and starting to get better encounters and was creating something for two grandchildren to have a place to take their first deer.... then crazy lady (a.k.a. my mother) sees that there are more deer sightings and these nice deer stands and feeders that she thinks she can invite all of her friends to come and shoot deer now like it's the KING RANCH! I pulled my stands and feeders and they put up new ones and started literally shooting everything they... small, young, whatever moves... decimating the per acre deer ratio for that 40 acres and the surrounding acres... So don't think how many hunters can we have.. think about how many deer are you going to take each year and maintain or enhance through management.
It was like a post the other day where some yahoo is day leasing 2 acres!!!! Sure you are surrounded by 1000's so that's ok?
Ok.... you can delete everything above and use this when thinking about buying hunting land:

Estimated population densities range from 5 deer per 1,000 acres in marginal habitats in the Rolling Plains, East Cross Timbers, Fort Worth Prairie, and Blackland Prairie areas to 100 deer per 1,000 acres in more productive habitats in the Edwards Plateau, West Cross Timbers, and Lampasas Cut Plain areas of Northcentral Texas.

I hunt by myself on 40 acres and see at least 10 deer every time, I have seen up to 20 before at one time. I shot deer every year and it does not one thing to the population. I would imagine 50 acres per hunter would be nice. The place in S. Texas is 7,000 acres for 10 hunters and it is more than we need...

My brother and I hunt 56 acres of our family land just fine. It is just us 2 and we don't take deer off of it every year. It is also fairly think in areas, with lots of hardwoods. We run 2 feeders on it, with bow blinds, but also have other blinds set up away from the feeders to hunt trails and such.

Our new place is 144 acres and 3 people is comfortable to hunt with the way it is set up in Bosque county with lots of elevation and very dense in areas.
Our other place in Colorado County more open with some dense spots is close to 400 acres and we can hunt 6 rifle hunters comfortably. It has six pastures of open separated by dense woods

i hunt 15- 20 acres off of a 40 acre lot with my 2 kids in the cross timbers i see deer every year and usually get at least one though this is the first year i have nice shooter bucks hanging around. i think the pressure is a little less this year though. it is possible to get deer on small places just a lot of luck involved
