I mean for me, I can't see why people ever feel like they "need a drink" as I see my friends post that on FB all the time, I used to say it myself, never really meaning it, but I believe most that say it actually feel that way. I have never felt I "needed" a drink. Maybe that's why I don't "need" to drink while hunting also.
Nobody said they "need" to drink while hunting. They said they enjoy drinking while hunting.

No different than something as simple as listening to music in a car. You don't "need" to listen to music, but sometimes it makes the ride more enjoyable.

I never would have guessed it either. I guess the stereotype most anti and non-hunters have of hunters is pretty accurate after all.

There are times when I feel a drink (beer) would be useful in helping me relax, but the idea of finding something to kill while buzzed or drunk is just absurd and irresponsible, IMO and anyone who kills someone while drinking deserves everything they have coming IMO.

Yea, there is a world of difference. In one case, you're just enjoying an activity with no chance of harming anyone or yourself. In the other, you are looking to kill something.

        BIG difference.

I don't drink when deer or dove hunting. But I have a few whiskey and cokes at night in camp. I have been known to have a few and stalk pigs in the dark. That's my favorite thing lol

If you can't hunt without drinking, you may have a drinking problem.
My only problem is an empty cooler

Not true. Driving a car is dangerous in and of itself. Being preoccupied with something else, like thevradio, can make driving a car more dangerous. But most of us have driven enough that the risks of listening to the radio while driving aren't that much greater than just driving. The same holds true for having a couple beers while hunting.

And it's ridiculous to say that driving is "enjoying an activity with NO chance of harming anyone or yourself".

Dove and hog hunting yes. Deer hunting no. After the day is done back at camp? Always.

A lot of these posts are taking me back to my highschool and college days. I've got more important things on my mind than trying to catch a buzz while trying to ethically kill an animal. Even being sober, things go wrong, I definitely don't need alcohol to increase my chances of making a bad shot.

I'm not against drinking, and if I had a camp of some sort, I'm sure id have a beer or 2 after the evening hunt, but hunting in East Texas is hard enough, so I don't need anything else that could dilute my senses.

I'll take the occasional few to the rifle blind with me when I feel like lugging a cooler around

Big difference between driving with music on and willfully impairing your motor skills. There's a reason it's illegal to drink and drive, but not illegal to listen to the radio and drive

Where drinking and hunting becomes MY problem is when someone chooses to do it on public land. If you want to have a drink while you're driving around your own farm, shooting doves of the powerlines from the seat of your truck, that's between you and your maker. If you want to drink while hunting where other people are present, then you are willfully negligent and get whatever is coming to you if you screw up and shoot someone. You know, like yourself, your kid, your buddy or anyone else.

Some of the responses on this thread are an embarrassment to the hunting community.

I'm pretty sure the OP was talking about private land.

I'm also pretty sure alcohol is already prohibited on all public land.

I don't drink when I am not hunting so no reason to drink when I am hunting.

Not necessarily. And in practice, I find more Bud Light cans in the NF than any other kind of drink container. And I mean pretty far in sometimes.

It just boggles my mind why someone would drink while hunting. I wasn't raised that way at all. But I do know that Darwin is always lurking around...
