I got the bird yesterday for trying to get into a lane after my turn signal was on for the better part of a minute.
A turn signal is now a challenge. Saying I can make the lane change before you can cut me off to the driver behind. He was ticked you won the challenge.
I bet more than a of em took a 'selfie' and posted it on insta-twit-book about how they had a terrible morning full of traffic and will be late to work at Starbucks
It really makes a person wonder when you see motorists honking their horns loudly when a postal worker is stopped while putting mail in the mail boxes. I haven't figured out yet just what they expect him or her to do.
One time, in broad daylight, a postal worker was stopped on the road doing his job. A car was waiting behind him and all of a sudden, BAM! Another car slammed into the one behind the mail truck. The car that caused the wreck took off in a hurry.
They probably don't have time to use their turn signals anymore bcuz it would take away from their texting while driving. They have to concentrate on what's most important while driving.
OP, just keep doing what you do. Helping a stranger in need is reward enough. But when you step out of your vehicle, just assume the driver of every other car is crazy. Or drunk. Or on dope. Or busy texting. Take nothing for granted and don't assume people see you. I've dived over enough guard rails and freeway dividers to know there's plenty of idiots behind the wheel.
I call it "Me-itis". The only thing a lot of people are interested in anymore is themselves
My wife & I have a similar description for it...we call it "Center of the Universe Complex" and it seems to permeate all facets of our society nowadays.
Common courtesy does not seem to exist on our roadways anymore. It seems more like a NASCAR race where every position means a point! It is sad that we can't realize that if we all drove considerate of others, allowing everyone in on the on ramps, not exiting the highway just to get on the service road for a half mile then jump back on the freeway, that we would ALL get home quicker! I need to get back to rural America!!!!
