We have been calling them shin oaks but I'm not real sure. They are a much smaller, softer wood tree than our "majority" live oaks with a very thin bark. During the ice storm we lost a ton of branches from them. They produce a very small acorn and are pretty plentiful right now compared to our live oaks. The live oaks are down in numbers this year thankfully.
