Thoughts on shooting doe with yearling

Had a doe and yearling come out. I didn't want to shoot because yearling looked little. The doe left 10 minutes ago but yearling is still earing

The general rule is if the spots are gone they are old enough to make it on their own.

If it is following mom around I won't shoot it

I have the same dilemma even late in the season. I know the yearling can make it on their own but still cannot seem to drop the string.

            I shoot them.
I had 22 does in one pic, I'm heavy on does.

My decision to shoot a doe on our ranch is based on numbers, and I never allow shooting a doe that is still tending a fawn.

                    This^^^^^^

I have been told this exact same thing by a TPWD Wildlife Biologist.

And if it is a yearling, then you can always shoot the doe. A yearling is a young adult and does not have spots. A fawn has spots.

Shooting doe- Need to take some from every age class, including yearlings. So take your pick.....

I'd let the air out of her, yearling has same odds of survival.
