Just found this on TPWD web site
                Other
Although many timber rattlers meet their deaths at the hands of people or by automobiles, the fastest way to kill timber rattlesnake populations is by destroying or altering the places they need to hunt, hibernate and live. Today, every state inhabited by timber rattlesnakes has laws protecting the species, including Texas. In Texas, it is listed as a threatened species. This means that people cannot take, transport, have in their possession or sell timber rattlesnakes.

You're correct that killing a timber rattler is illegal. Many, many Texans won't believe you if you tell them that it's illegal to kill a rattlesnake.

I've seems several posts on here of tbh'ers who pointlessly killed timber rattlers....weird things is tbh'ers will cover for them. Accidentally shoot a 12.999" buck and they get the rope strung up.

way south of Toledo bend but you never know where I could show up. Most timber rattlers are killed in the piney woods so I just assumed it was up that way. How about ......... "this side of the Sabine River"!!!

The Timber Rattle Snake is the most common rattle snake in South Carolina. They are not protected there.

Why would the media air such a story if it is illegal to kill them?
