    Armadillo problems

Armadillos are reeking havoc on my back yard. Other than posting up with a .22 and waiting all night, what's the best way to get rid of them?

They make some kind of powdered at lowes that you can sprinkle around the yard. My mom used it and it worked

Don't shoot them with a shotgun. I shot one when I was younger at fairly close range (10yds), it did not kill it. I had to drag it out of its hole when it crawled off to put it out of its misery.

You can walk right up on them. I walked up on two in the middle of summer in broad daylight. About 4 yards and the birdshot destroyed him. Pumped and shot at the other that kept digging and didnt have another shell. Went inside put two more in walked up to the same spot, he was still there. Not there anymore................
They're pretty dumb creatures to be honest

Wait till they crawl into the hole. Then fill the hole up very very well. Not stink, no mess. Grubworms are their primary food.

If you see them go in the hole, drop a water hose in it and stand back. They will come out like a cannonball. Then shoot it

So do they dig just to have a hole to crawl in? I thought they dig to find bugs to eat..

Sometimes I like to grab by the tail and relocate them. Other times I'm feeling lazy and pop them with a 22.

Live trap and a couple of 2x12's ten to 16ft and make a v that leads them right to the door. This works if you don't want to kill them.

They are easy to live trap. Use a couple 8' long 2x6's and make a funnel into the mouth of the trap.

I have two methods for taking care of them.

#1. Cup of bleach, a cup of ammonia, funnel, about 10' of garden hose. Stick the hose into the hole as far as you can get it to go, blow thru it to make sure the end isn't plugged with dirt. Put funnel in hose, pour in bleach, blow thru hose. Pour ammonia in hose, take a deep breath and blow thru hose--DO NOT INHALE!!!!!. You may seesome whitish smoke/fumes coming out of the hole--DO NOT INHALE!!!!! Remove hose and fill in the hole and tamp the dirt down tightly. Done and done. The poisonous gas produced by the bleach and ammonia will kill the critter, and he is in his own self-dug grave.

#2 Probably easier but costs more. Go to AutoZone and buy a $7 package of safety flares. Light one, stick it down the hole as far as you can get it, then plug the hole with dirt. Done and done. Either the fumes kill the diller or the flame consumes all the oxygen and it goes to sleep.

If you come back in the next couple of days and the hole has been reopened, that means the diller wasn't home, so repeat. Eventually you will catch it in his hole and be done.
