The remote just let you control things remotely. If thats not a big deal you don't have to have it....you can always buy a remote later if needed. I need the remote in what I do. have fun!!!

You might want to get a GO POLE....just a way to get the GOPRO in the air more. I use mine ALL the time. Great for interviews or shooting when walking. Just a great angle.

Whether using the app or the remote, the blue tooth is on, and that alone eats battery power.

Don't know about the sliver edition, but if it does have built in wi-fi, it would be OK too. The ap is MUCH better for setting up the various options on the camera than either using all the buttons on the camera or the dedicated remote. With the ap, you can just scrool through the various settings and change them easily... using the camera to set it up or the remote is a genuine PITA. I also have a Hero 2, but since the ap became available, I have not use the dedicated remotes...

And I agree, they are best used as a secondary camera for close in work and such. They only have 2 settings on field of view... and both are not available with some exposure/speed settings.

Thanks for all the input guys, I think I am going to pull the trigger on the GoPro. For what I am wanting to do I think it will be the best fit.

Great zoom, stabilizer, wide angle. I also have a GO PRO 3+.....i use it for close shots and interviews...very limited due to no zoom and no stabilizing..and last thing LIGHT!! you have to have good light. Also if you get GO PRO get a UV filter. Also you need tons of batteries. Only good for 2 hrs. I would get this before a GO PRO. I love mine
The GoPro 4 will be released soon. The latest is the GoPro 3+. Similar to the 3 but handles lower light better. Excellent customer service. The GoPro is excellent for a selfie in action adventures. So if you are skiing, you get the wide angle. If you film yourself in a jump, 30' appears you have no height. The extended battery pack is good. Do not waste money with a touch screen...the WiFi app let's your smart phone or tablet do the same and the lack also kills batteries.

I would recommend the Sony over the GoPro (but GoPro is neat being waterproof).

think you will still need a gimbal for stabilization. Sony sure looks good too.
