I am new to this forum and also fairly new to bowhunting, just wanted some opinions.

    Yep. Too long.

Need a closer pic to say how much. But from a distance it looks like an inch and a half.

I'd open your grip too, gripping can cause torque. Aka don't firmly squeeze or grip to tight on the bows grip with your left hand.

DL too long. Release looks long too. You have NO Anchor point, your hand should be touching your face. I put my thumb knuckle to my jaw bone.

I disagree. I closed my grip over a decade ago. No issues and no wrist sling for hunting in nearly 13 years.

FYI.... Forcing the bow hand open( fingers extended) can also cause torquing issues as the web between thumb/ finger is stretched.also allows the large thumb muscle on the palm to round over instead of allowing the handle to "settle" in against the muscle.

Call it "dead handed".... Ie natural

Too long by I would guess an inch. Most guys say your nock point should be directly under your eye. You right hand should end up closer to your ear. Your left arm should have a slight bend and not be overextended. I think if you don't change it you will struggle with upward and downward angled shots. Plus, you will probably find if you shorten it up your string won't hit your arm or clothes. I have never seen an archer that didn't shoot better with a slightly short vs long draw length.

following, this will be entertaining, go to a pro shop and get the bow set up correctly for you. when ever someone asks is the DL to long, I always ask what their draw length is. There are several ways to measure it at home, just google it and that will give you an idea if you are not sure

And can cause some people to "grab it" at the shot.

Yeah but you can look at that pic and tell it's too long.

I never said don't grip the bow, just make sure you aren't bearing down on it.

                            ditto

IMO, your left arm should be slightly bent.
your arm is straight as the string may brush your forearm after release causing a huge hematoma

                            release is definitely to long

I was trying to convey the point of getting his draw length checked, which my guess is it hasn't been checked yet, I had a buddy shoot a 30 inch draw for years and when he went to the bow shop with me, he was actually a 28 inch draw length, he got a bow from a friend and just started shooting he was very accurate and killed deer every year people adjust to what they have and especially when they get a used bow for free
