Acorns - Started falling in your area?

My big red oak at my house is dropping acorns. Seems a little early to me.

I checked my cameras and the deer activity on my food plot and feeder slowed way down. I keep this feeder going year round and just switched it over to twice a day. Hoping it's just another fresh food source pulling them away from the food plots and feeder.

Hoping the activity picks back up.

I checked my home place and they are full of acorns but none quite ready to drop. I would think it is a little early too, but oh well the sooner the drop the better.

My oak trees in Freestone County are loaded with acorns and a few have started dropping already.

I'm in SE Texas out by Lake Sam Rayburn. I noticed this week that my feeder activity has slowed way down and plan on checking the oaks this weekend. Most likely a natural food source is the culprit. Maybe the acorns will fall early and the rut will be primo.

I was out to our place in Cisco last week. Ton's of oaks, but the acrons were very small and I don't think they will make.

There is a huge acorn crop in east Tx but they aren't near mature yet. The American Beauty berry just got ripe though and in some instances, deer will totally quit corn for them.

That's one of the things that I wanted to look at during my trip tomorrow.

I have just a little work left to do on the feeder and plan to take a close look at the acorns. With the spring and summer rains we've had this year, I'm expecting a large crop.

Critters don't much like Red Oak acorns. Too bitter I guess. Mine are about half mature. Squirrels won't bother them until all other pecans and acorns are gone.
White oak acorns is a whole different ball game.

Can always hunt a heavy drop of white oak acorns, especially if they're in a concentrated area.

My pecans in the back yard seem to be a bit early this year to me.

Mine love them. I collect them every year and feed them to the deer at my place. My local squirrels are eat them all the time.

Great to know. I'll have to check our lease too. Last year, we had zero on our place in Streetman. We fertilized a few oaks earlier this year, hoping to help the trees out a bit.
