The way I see it they trespassed on your property, destroyed your property and then stole your property. I would call the law and press all the charges listed above.

I try to take the high road when I can but when you back me into a corner and then are blatantly rude I come out with everything.

just thinking there might be some kind of legal or illegal issues with them coming on your property & cutting the bushes so I definately would get a replacement estimate & talk to a law enforcement buddy to see if it is possibly trespassing or maybe criminal mischief, that way when you do finally get to talk to the husband you can always put it to hin I can be a real a** & pursue it this way or you can try to reign in the wife a bit. jmho

Talk to the contractor and see if he will put up orange safety mesh fence to keep the trash out of your yard. Ask him if he removed the bushes and have your plot in hand and show him he went over the property line. Hopefully he will admit it and maybe you can work with him on getting compensated for the bushes. Also get the phone number for the husband from him and call him. Explain the situation you had with his wife and emphasize that you apologized and that you would also like to discuss the situation with the bushes. In summary, have your facts in order, be professional and be reasonable.

Man, that SUX! So glad I have enough room not to worry about stuff like that, AND that I'm friends (and like-minded) with our nearest neighbors. I will say, it sounds like you kinda started out on the wrong foot. A little more understanding about the mess during a build of a new home, when you chose to live in such tight quarters, would have been helpful. Also, not raising your voice would have been helpful. On the other hand, it would have been nice for her to be gracious enough to accept your apology. Hopefully, it's not beyond repairing.

My suggestion: send your wife over with a batch of cookies to see if she can repair (or build) an amicable relationship with the neighbors - to the point where you can discuss and resolve issues.

There are SO many threads on the GS about neighbor disputes and the most common thread always seems to be lack of communication and a lack of a relationship between neighbors. Sure, there are plenty of impossible neighbors out there but they comprise a small percentage of the overall number of neighbors. Whether I lived in the city or the country, in close proximity or far away from my neighbors, I've always made a point to go and meet ALL my neighbors, try to build a friendly relationship with them and work with them to look out for each other. I've yet to have a unresolvable issue with a neighbor, as a result - I've always been able to work it out because I built some sort of relationship BEFORE an issue arose. I've had plenty of idiots live next to me but a little communication and a thick skin has always served me well; and I've never been in a situation like so many people seem to find themselves. I'm not that lucky - living with neighbors takes a little (preemptive) effort.

Good luck, I hope you can work it out.

In cases like this, I would mow the yard naked. purposely cutting your bushes on your property has penalties. Horitexan as usual is right on. Communicate and never raise your voice. Its a sign of aggression....especially to a lady. Good luck hope the communication improves. ..... and spray for chiggers!!

Tough deal. I say make sure you practice your archery with your target between you and their backyard, and make sure their dog is out there when you do. That usually keeps my neighbors inside....and their dog.

High wood fence, cover their side in tin.

If they cut brush on your property file charges and make them restore the property.

first thing that went up on our place was a dog kennel, second was a fence.

Make friends with her husband. If he fishes and hunts, he is probably an ok guy. Besides, he is probably much more tired of his wife's crap than you are.

I'm not sure what I would do about the neighbors but if we can get an express from SA (or if you are close enough I can bring them) I have some very nice 15 gal pittosporums left over from a job you can have. I run a landscaping company and don't mind helping out.

Dig a 4' deep trench from front to back of your property 5' in from the property line on their side and pour a concrete beam. Then plant invasive bamboo (still on your property) on the other side of the concrete barrier.
