Amen to that. I did the same exact thing. Got left by a tree when I was 9, with nothing but my bow and my thoughts, waiting for a deer to come by.

I still think of that day very fondly all the time.

Yep. When we discovered the old 5 gallon bucket/wind vane feeders with thought we were smart. I remember the first "electric feeder" I ever saw. I was in awe of it. You could have knocked me over with a feather..It was mystical..... had to have one of those fan dangled gizmos!!
My first was a "Kenco". Bought it in 1988. Still have and use it.

I let a buddy hunt my place with me last year as I was new to bowhunting and thought he might know a few things. First hunt with him, he's getting ready in my cabin...and he's wearing some kind of wire mesh suit. I asked him WTH...and he said it helped contain our bodies electrical field. I then said, ok, what good is that? He said deer would not be able to detect our magnetic field. I told him it might work as a hazmat suit. People will drop big coin on stupid stuff.

Me and my kids went out today and I decided I would rather have cameras over feeders. I can throw corn on the ground but cameras will tell me if anything is hitting it. They are both expensive on batteries but for me cameras would be more useful.

I dont even buy Scentblocker or Scentlok clothing. Hunters have killed deer without it for decades.

                          I remember those days well.

We rarely baited (couldn't afford the corn!) but when we did, we had nailed wooden (wooden!) soda bottle crates to trees and poured the corn in them. Eventually those rotted away and we then used 5 gal. buckets with slits in the bottom and the sides pushed in a bit. The corn would stay in if you did it just right and the deer could lick the corn out.

About the time the battery powered timers came out was when I sold my compound and went traditional, and stopped baiting too. But as a kid, I remember very well staring at those wooden soda bottle crates full of corn, as if a deer was going to pop straight out of it! ha, ha.

We are worse than women with all their make-up/beauty crap. The worst offenders are always bullets, broadheads, and camo. All I carry to stand now is a book, a bag cooler with a few beers, my weapon, and some bino's. The only reason I wear camo is because that is about the only color they make quiet warm clothing in.

The bottom line is that a deer will smell you if he gets down wind, all you need is a sharp broadhead that hits where you aim it, and you don't need a $50.00 box of pure copper super light speed magnum bullets to kill a deer.
