Life is about steps. Start with easy affordable calls (Haydel's and duck commander are great starters) a whistle and a call lanyard. Practice until it feels good and your tounge gets used to it. Then go and find a high dollar call call you like. Hang it on the lanyard and blow the one you are most comfortable with.

Second price of advice, spend more money on scouting than calls and you will kill more ducks.

DR 85 is a great start. THIS call is another awesome call. Easy to blow and easy on the wallet.

We must hunt close to each other.... I had the same observation!

And for the duck call question... don't really matter which call... cheap ones work fine. High dollar ones work too.. Don't really matter if you cant make it sound like a perfect duck quacking... not many folks can.
Learn to watch and read ducks. Knowing When to call and When to keep your hands off the call will kill more ducks.

            I hate blowing a call.

              Best advice yet.....

If I were to only carry one it would probably be the Flextone, plus it works wet.
                I agree....

Must buy a whistle. a lot of ducks whistle and its simple to master. My favorite late season call is the duck commander gadwall call. Late season, ducks have been shot at for months and can get learily to anything that sounds like a duck. Killed a bunch of em with that call (it sounds like a buzzing whistle)

Buy you a whistle and a DR85. On the other hand, I use a Cache River and a RNT

RNT original once you can do everything that call can then start venturing out to different calls.

Only really need a mallard hen and a whistle. I use a rnt daisy cutter mainly. I have bought many calls and you get what you pay for. Just make sure to practice A LOT BEFORE SEASON starts

I've got probably 15 or so calls. I carry an older duck commander 2 reed wood call, not sure which model, a 7 way whistle, a speckle belly call and a Buck Gardner Double Nasty acrylic call. If I'm going to Arkansas to hunt timber I trade my speck call for a Canadian call, and I carry my double nasty and a RNT Alpha 2. Lots of choices out there makes it hard to get started.

Buy the best you can, dont skimp on decoys.

Dakota dekes, then G&H then GHG for the top of the line
