I carry an RNT Daisy Cutter, a speckle belly call, a whilste, and JB Custom duck call. Love my RNT. Both calls ran around $150 I believe. The speck call was also around $150.

Get you a 7- in - 1 whistle and two calls of your choice. I'd suggest Duck Commander and Buck Gardner. Get one double reed for sure. Figure out how to blow a cheap one before you spend $100 on a call.

There are guys on here that do a lot more duck hunting on here than me, but I only use 3 duck calls. One long range, one short range (both acrylic), and a whistle (which is probably my favorite due to the versatility). Keep in mind that most new duck hunters call too much/often.

Best thing I can tell you is get a good double reed. Most people who aren't contest callers can't work a single reed properly and IMO are harder to work. I would suggest a mid-volume call and a softer call. Loud calls typically only scare more birds than attract them. I'm in Temple as well and have been duck and goose hunting for 30 years now. I make calls and can get you pointed in the right direction. Or, get the Buck Gardner Double Nasty, or the Echo poly double reed. Both are under $30....

Buy you a shurshot mallard 650 and whistle. No sense in buying those fancy dancy over priced calls. Find the ducks and get where they want to be.

                  I usually have four:

                  Original wood duck commander
                  Whistle
                  Single reed rnt
                  Roten acrylic for volume

Get a whistle and a Haydel DR85 and you will be good to go.

Now the key is learning how to blow the dang thing. Most people are just out there making noise and have no idea how to blow a duck call. I'm not claiming to be great but I think I am better than a lot of the people in the marsh on Saturday morning.

                      On the money!

My 9yo girl has the DR85. It's what I learned on and it's one of the most user friendly calls out there. I carry a Haydel's Dirty Rice and a sprig whistle. If you can whistle like a teal or grunt like a Gadwall, you can kill any duck in our area.

Still using my Dad's old Olt call. I agree with the above, most call too much. Learn the basics and hunt where the birds want to be. Decoy spread and location usually means more to me than calling

I carry a yentzen double reed and a silver gym whistle with the ball removed. Learn to say with your tongue ticket very fast and something that rhymes with swat for a single quack.
