Looking to start a collection of power tools. What's your thoughts on brands? I've kind of narrowed it down to Ridgid or DeWalt but am still open and like Ridgid has lifetime warranty.

Ridgid or DeWalt?

I had dewalt drills for years until a couple months ago. When all my 18v dewalt batteries died I went shopping. I went to the depot and found they had the ridgid drill and impact set on sale for under $200 and it included a small radio. When I read the warranty on the ridgid set i was sold. They basically cover the batteries and drills for life, if you register them on the website. From what I understand the only thing not covered is damage. I have recently used the impact and drill while building a rv cover and I am very impressed. And the radio that came with the set is great. I left it playing on a fully charged battery the other day and the thing played for 24hrs straight.

You said power tools....battery or corded? For battery operated, get all the same brand, lithium. I don't think it really matters what brand starting out, all the big names, DeWalt, Rigid, Milwaukee, Bosch etc are gtg.
For corded, where common batteries don't matter, different brands make different tools better. For example, Milwaukee makes the #1 sawsall....it's the original. Skil makes the #1 circular saw (ever wonder why all circular saws are called skilsaws, regardless of manufacturer?) But skil drills are junk IMO.

If you want a battery powered tool that will last if you planning on using them go with the Makita 18V lithium. They will withstand abuse better than any other. If it is gonna be for use around the house go with the Rigid. I have owned them all and have stuck with Makita for heavy use at work.
