Since I went to feeding at the end of a track. They have been on fire.
I believe it's the best motivator you can use.
I have used the food reward with Gumbo since the very start.
If he wanted to eat he had to work the trail. He never once missed a meal.
A good dog should work the trail regardless, but when he/she knows they get to eat at the end of each run, the added incentive food provides insures that your dog will do their best to find the trails end.
Had to get Jenna some shoes. Last trip to big bend her paws were torn up bad from the volcanic rock. Started bleeding a bit and this was just walking around a small camp a few hours. She is ready this time.. Anyone else have experience with rocks and pad tears/cuts? Dog boots in general? Seems like she has no medium speed and will shred her paws going full speed before slowing down after the damage is done. I did notice she likes the traction she get with the shoes on the hard wood floors chasing her " bird". Never in my life I thought I would be buying shoes for a dog.
I dig the catahoula thread. I had a catahoula x rhodesian ridgeback. Zephyr. Ive always loved the brindle coloring. Zephyr passed some years ago by stragulation from another dog getting its jaw caught in her collar...play biting....one dog or the other twisted to get out....Zephyr got strangled. Look like someone had taken a tire iron and wrenched the collar tight. I cried. Vet said she had seen it in front of her eyes between two great danes. Nonetheless....Great dog breed...good hunters, good workers, endless lovers. Ill find and post some pics of Zephyr.
You and Daisy have the same haircut...that's cute. Oh wait, I was looking at the second pic......LOL
Shes looking slim and trim Chew! Good looking pup. Mine is getting big quick and doing good so far on the blood trails. Got her first "real" track in last night on a pig my dad and little brother shot. Was a short easy trail and she winded the pig right off...she was a little hesitant when she found it at the end but was jumping all over it after a few minutes. Not bad for only a couple months old.

I will send you some pics tonight Steve. Cant tell you how pleased we are with her so far. Shes smart as can be and a little firecracker. I have been aging her blood trails about an hour and up to 175 yards and shes doing good. Ran her off her lead for the first time the other day and she stayed on it pretty good. A few distractions but she picked it back up and found her hide at the end...she get alot more worked up over playing with her deer hide than eating food.
