I wouldn't worry about it. For the most part, the majority of alligators want nothing to do with humans and typically do whatever to avoid them.

The alligators that typically become problems are the ones that hang around public areas that people feed. They begin to associate food with humans and become unafraid to swim up to them. Actually, the gator in that picture probably has been fed before; which is a reason he might be hanging very close to the dock.

don't worry about it, but stay in your boat. Plastic isn't on their menu. People kayak around them all the time at Armand Bayou on Clear Lake. The Boy Scout camp near Conroe has lots of them in the lake and boys canoeing and kayaking all over. They even have (guess they still do) a gator hunt from canoes where the brave scouts grab them barehanded and toss them in the canoe.

Yea, me too... A couple weekends ago, where I shot that big alligator gar with my bow, I returned and shot a small gar about 3 feet long... bringing it in, and a gator launched itself out of some brush along the bank and took the fish right off my arrow! If that sucker had been next to me in a 'yak, I well could have lost a hand, arm or everything depending on just how close to the yak the fish was and how aggressively it took after the fish... just not worth it in my book...

They won't bother you. We kayak fish with them all of the time in south louisiana.

I wouldn't worry about it. They're not out to get you and most likely they will avoid you , just don't jack with them

you'll be fine. just don't feed them. they may try to steal your stringer of fish and they may bump boat. Wack'em in the head with a paddle. I live on Sabine river just north of the I-10 bridge and every chance I get I am on or in the water and I have never heard of anyone being attacked. Charged for messing babies or bitten for grabbing one to far back is a different story. GO FISH

Been around em for years, never had an issue unless I was doing something I shouldn't, like provoking them!

Did it once in Evans County Georgia. Small kayak with a bunch of gators. Stupidest thing I've ever done.

I think your friend wants you to go, because he believes he is a faster swimmer than you and if the kayak overturns, well you know the rest of the story. Lol. Just kidding, I am sure you will be fine.

If you are wearing a GoPro, make sure you have about 25' of heavy duty line with a float on the end of it. That way if it is swallowed, they can pull the camera out and upload the video.

We have swam with them unknowingly in lake Livingston several times. Worries you a bit, but they seem to keep their distance of they see you in a boat.
