No big loads, just running 30+ miles per day.
Well dang, now I wonder what to do. I might call up to the Polaris shop in Durango and pick their brain. Now, as far as your plugs popping out, did you ever check your tire pressure? Going up to 8,500' from sea level will increase an ATV tire pressure immensely.

We were on the Alpine Loop so we went over 13,000. Even the 10+ stuff it really had to work going up.

I mean pedal all the way to the floor and moving up slowly.

        I didn't check pressures...2nd day got a flat, plugged.
Repeated that about 10 more times over the next 4 days.

The 800 XP has a little more umph than the 800 crew. The XP is rated at 50hp and the Crew is 40hp.

Same reason I am going to a clutch kit in mine. It was like I just couldnt get the rpm's up to make the climb. All this on the same Alpine loop. Im headed back in a few weeks..

Been pondering over this all day......just how exactly is a clutch kit going to make up for lack of oxygen in the air at altitude?

This is the way is was explained to me. I asked similar questions because I didnt understand how either.

It wont make up for lack of air, but It will allow power to the wheels better. The clutchs open and close on the belt via weights/springs in the clutchs. According to a few dealers local and one in Colorado, the weights for up to 5000 ft are 62grams the weights for 6000-12000 are 58grams each (there are 3). With lighter weights, it will allow the clutch to open/close easier (slip) raising the RPM's thus giving you better power to the ground for pulling hills in altitude. If that doesnt make you scratch your head, I dont know what will

Im still pondering how it will work. But everything I have read and asked, everyone says clutching is the best mods that they have done.

I ordered mine today and it will be going in next week. Then Ill be headed to Colorado. Ill be sure to update this thread if phone signal allows while Im up there.

Can you simply put the lighter weights/spring on and avoid buying an aftermarket clutch? If so, I might just buy the weights and see how the machine runs beforehand. If she's a dog, I should be able to swap out the weights without heading into town if I have the tools available.

Yes you can. If yours is a crew, just ask for the high altitude kit. 3 weights at $15 each is what I was quoted.

That helps a bunch actually being its a centrifical clutch, I can see less weight causing easier spin. 45 bucks sounds way better than 200+ when mine runs just fine with 26" bighorns here.

An update would be awesome! Like I said we're taking 2 rangers (both are 700 Vtwins) but could replace with standard 4wheelers if we have to

Update on the clutch kit. We rode about 80 miles yesterday. The clutch kit helped a little. There hasn't been a climb I haven't been able to accomplish yet. We have 4 adults and 2 kids riding in mine roughly 975lbs all gear and riders included.

While it doesn't seem like it's helped much including all the weight, I took it out yesterday morning alone and it was a big improvement with just me and the gear.
