Polaris Ranger owners running the Power Commander

Im looking at getting the Power Commander to put on my 13' ranger crew. The plan is to remove the restrictor and add the commander to make the air/fuel ratio correct and it advertises more low and mid range power.

Do any of you run one of these on your Rangers?

I did on my ranger but I used the big gun evo utv pipe and rev box by big gun, it gave me a lot
More midrange punch but the biggest improvement with me running 29" tires was a clutch kit! I gained 7mph top end and could break the tires off on dry pavement and defiantly helped with a bed full of corn

From what I've read on some Ranger Forums, you'd get more results from a customized clutch kit.

Couple springs and some weights and an hour of work and you have a brand new machine ild do clutch kit, and then hush pipe and programmer

Here in Texas, the machine runs fine. But when I go up to Colorado, its gutless. I do plan on doing a cluth kit, but that is after I do the tuning. Taking out the restrictor, most will be ok. But when you do a WOT run, like we do in Colorado on some of the roads until we hit the trail roads, your pushing it on running the machine too lean.

Last year, I hit a climb on Rat Creek in Creede, that I had my machine in 4 low floored and it was like I was trying to pull 10k lbs behind it. That was with the restrictor removed being that the air is so thin up there. In situations like this, I could see the benifit of a cluth and performance upgrades working together.

You need to do the clutch kit to fix the altitude problem. Sean had to go to the Polaris place in Durango and discussed this very issue. They do the clutch kit on the new ones they get in to fix exactly what all of us flat landers are complaining about.

So it there really that much slippage up there? Why would it not slip down here like that? I can break the tires lose on a climb down here where I couldnt up in CO.

I just called a dealer up there, and he told me kinda the same deal you are saying. He said not to mess with a cluth kit, he said to get lighter cam arms for the clutch. He said what I was probably experiencing is I couldnt get the RMS needed to make the climb because my Cam arms are too heavy. I am going to look into this a little more. I am assuming if I were to get a cluth kit, would it not have lighter cam arms to help get the power to the ground?

I just dont know enough about the clutch kits

As Joe stated I talked with the guys in Durango. They said cheapest easiest thing to do is a clutch kit. But, its not a true fix for the ranger. The only way to make them run good or close to as good as they do in lower elevations is to either supercharge or turbo charge it. You will need forced induction to counter the thinner air.
