    Snake bit dog

My dog was missing for a few hours so I went looking for him. Found him about 300 yards from the house laying in some tall grass. One of his front legs is swelled to twice the size of the other and he won't put weight on it. I assume he has been snake bitten. Anything I can do or just wait it out?

I think you can give them some Benadryl.
Hope all turns out for the best!

Benedryl and let him lay up in a comfortable cool place for a few hours.........then just wait it out. Bayou has been hit 3 times but beagles constantly put there nose's in the wrong place. I have never taken a dog to the vet for a snake bite.....they are pretty darn tough.

I have him in the house in the ac but he's obviously in a lot of pain. I'll try some benadryl.

Yup benadryl and cool air. Keep him hydrated. He will be fine. Dog was bit 6 times by a copperhead in the face, and neck back in May. He was fine the next day. Good luck!

This! My old lab got bit by a copperhead when I was in high school and I took him to the vet! He gave my dog a shot. Handed me a bill and said dogs are pretty tough and he probably didn't need to come to the vet!!!

Benadryl kicked in and he's been sleeping for the last hour. It's still very swollen though.
